Cyprus: A greek island with a history of thousands of years. During this history many invaders came and left but this goes on for ever.
M.E.S.Ro.C. Ltd is a cypriot company located in Lemessos (Limassol) in the south coastal area of Cyprus. Our activities cover the areas that
are controlled by the Government of Cyprus only beacuse the 37% of our land is under the Turkish occupation since 1974.
In World War II cypriots fought with the British as Cyprus was under the british occupation. The british promised that after the war, Cypriots
would be free to select their future. A plebiscite in 1950 showed that 95% including greek and turkish inhabitants of the population desired
the unification with Greece. Turkish population in Cyprus was introduced after 1571 when Cyprus was under the Ottomans occupation or
inhabitants that were forced to change their ethnic and religion origin to avoid death or heavy taxes, by changing their names. The british
occupation (1878-1960) decided to form a police core consisted only from Turkish-cypriots (following the known british "principle" devide and
rule) to force the Greek inhabitants of Cyprus to stop fighting for their future. EOKA fighters 1955-1959 forced the british to come on the
negotiation table for the recognition of Cypriots right to unify with Greece. A goal that was never achieved. Nevertheless, the british
managed to give to turkish-cypriot population (18%) excessive rights in order to manage in the future the division of the island while
maintaining british bases on our island. This maybe was not obvious at that time for Cypriots but the Rebublic of Cyprus was given a
constitution that was a recipy to failure.
Turkish invasion. Almost 200,000 people were forced to abandon their homes in 1974. Many women were raped. 1600 persons including
small children are stilll missing and thousands were killed from the Turkish troops while the british were helping them on information level.
Since then Cyprus is struggling to survive while in the occupied areas our churches became stables, houses are being built on our land
without any licence from the legal owners and the injustice goes on for decades while the International Community just watches without
doing anything to stop this situation. Turkey brought settlers to change the demographic proportions in the island and most of the
turkish-cypriots also left Cyprus to avoid the injustice behaviour of the Turkish settlers, turkish army and their puppets (Denktash, Talat) et.c.
Nowadays the Turkish and British policy aims into the termination of the so called turkish cypriots isolation by violating Cyprus Governments'
and Cypriots rights. How about the Kurdish rights in Turkey? CYPRUS is an EU Member State since May 2004. The Turkish occupation is
the only reason why CYPRUS & EU laws cannot be applied in the occupied areas.
